Overwatch VR Possible; South Korean High School Students Bring VR Version To Reality

A group of students from a South Korean high school brought Overwatch VR into reality. These students combined a Samsung Gear VR headset and a number of sensors. As a result, they are able to play as Soldier: 76 in virtual reality.

Since the release of the game back in May 2016, players have been very creative. Some of the players have invented a wide array of ways to play the game. And apparently, some people just had enough of the traditional first person competitive shooting game.

As a matter of fact, some players are able to play the game with a controller out of bananas. While others played the game using a nerf bow. It appears that there’s no end to these players’ creativity.

Furthermore, we have yet to see another gimmick or another way of playing the game for a while now. However, a group of South Korean high school students has invented another way of playing Overwatch. They used a virtual reality headset which led to a very realistic shooting experience.

These South Korean students combined a smartphone, a Samsung Gear VR headset, motion detectors, an IBM sensor. In addition, they used a custom made gun controller which acts as their weapon. As can be seen in the video below, their efforts appears to have actually paid off

In addition, they resemble the Virtuix Omni treadmill. They paired their VR equipment with the hero named Soldier: 76. This specific character has the ultimate ability called Tactical Visor that allows the player to auto-aim at their opponents.

The experience might appear to be very enjoyable and fun. However, it’s not without its issues. That being said, it appears that there’s a significant amount of input lag in the game.

And the game Overwatch can be a very competitive game. Hence, players would hate to have the said kind of input delay to hinder their playstyle. Regardless of playability, these students should still be commended because of their efforts and creativity. Source: Thebitbag
