Facebook has been adding some of the most useful features to its social media platform. Two years ago Facebook introduced an optional feature of ‘Nearby Friends’ which was integrated into the Facebook app. This functionality enabled users to share the location with the other friends listed in their Facebook account and let them locate on the digital map. But now as online privacy is considered one of the biggest risks, Facebook has decided to make some changes to this functionality.
It has now replaced its location sharing feature with less pinpointing and less intrusive option. In fact, the company has eliminated its feature to locate your friends on the map. The discretion of appearing in the ‘Nearby Friends’ functionality is left to the users. The ones who opt out of this option will not be displayed in the ‘Nearby Friends’ list.
This New function will make the privacy of users more secure even if they forget to switch off their sharing of location with others. In addition to this Facebook has added one more feature to its latest update which is named ‘Wave.’
This option was reported to be in testing phase for last two months, and now it is available across the world. In a nutshell, this functionality works same as the poking feature. All a user has to do, is to tap the waving hand logo, placed beside the name of a person you want to wave in the nearby friends pop up.
The app will notify the recipient with an animated waving hand sent by you.The best thing about this is a person can reverse his action in case he changes his mind and decides against sending the wave. Doing so will remove the waving hand animation from your friend’s phone. If a user wants to get in touch with the person who has sent the wave option, he or she just has to click on the waving hand animation and can communicate with the sender.
Well, this is simple! All the user has to do is to open Facebook app and tap on the three bar icon placed on the right of notification logo, from the next menu select nearby friends by scrolling down, and there you will be prompted to switch on the feature which will let you share your location with the list of friends in your Facebook account.
You will see only those users who have opted to participate using the functionality. This feature has also added with the functionality of deactivating the participation in the ‘Nearby Friends’ option for a limited time. You can also switch it off permanently.
